Board to Vote on 2026-2027 Property Tax Rate
📅 August 31, 2026
The board will hold a public hearing and then vote to adopt the Maintenance & Operations (M&O) and Interest & Sinking (I&S) tax rates for the upcoming year. This vote directly determines the school district portion of every resident’s property tax bill.
Response

DEMAND TRANSPARENCY: Contact the district office to find the Board’s contact information. Ask them: ‘Before voting on Item 6, please state publicly how the proposed total tax rate of 0.9324 compares to the no-new-revenue rate and the voter-approval rate.’

💰 Impact: Potential Property Tax Increase
⚠️ Warning (LEVEL 7)
Policy Restricts Public Comment Opportunities
📅 August 31, 2026
An updated public comment policy creates significant hurdles for citizens wishing to speak. Residents must sign up in a narrow, in-person-only window just before the meeting, and speaking time can be cut to as little as one minute if more than six people sign up.
Response

DEFEND YOUR VOICE: Email Board President Kelly Sheridan at kelly.sheridan@sweetwaterisd.net: ‘The public comment rules attached to the agenda discourage participation. Please expand the sign-up window and guarantee a reasonable minimum speaking time for all residents.’

💰 Impact: Reduced Public Access
