Proposed Rules Could Centralize Power, Exclude Dissenting Trustees
The Board is discussing major changes to its operating procedures that could limit accountability. Proposed rules would give the Board President new power to unilaterally “defer” agenda items, allow the Board to exclude a trustee from closed-door legal meetings by declaring them “adverse,” and funnel all trustee information requests through the Superintendent. These changes could be used to silence dissent and limit the ability of elected trustees to investigate issues on behalf of taxpayers.
Response
DEMAND A RECORDED VOTE: This is a ‘discussion’ item, but policy is made in these details. Email the Leander ISD Board at governance.team@leanderisd.org: ‘Do not approve the proposed Board Operating Procedures in Item 7.A.1. These rules could be used to silence dissenting trustees and hide information. Vote NO on any rule that allows the Board to exclude a trustee from a closed session or gives the President unilateral power to defer agenda items.’
π° Impact: Reduced Accountability

District Hires Consultant for “Re-Imagining Campuses”
The district has hired Civic Solutions Group (CSG) to lead a 10-year “long-range planning” process. The consultant’s presentation points to declining enrollment and the need for “facility & asset management” and “re-imagining campuses,” which is often code for closing neighborhood schools. This process outsources major decisions to a consultant and uses “community engagement” to build support for potentially painful, pre-determined outcomes.
Response
DEMAND THE DETAILS: Email the Leander ISD Board at governance.team@leanderisd.org: ‘Regarding Item 7.B.1, what is the full cost of the Civic Solutions Group contract? Taxpayers must be partners, not props. Ensure this process is fully transparent and that closing schools is the last resort, not the first option.’
π° Impact: Undisclosed Consultant Fees, Potential School Closures
