🚨 HIGH CONCERN (LEVEL 8)
New Rules Limit Parent Voices at Board Meetings
📅 August 31, 2026
The Board is reviewing its public participation policy (0169.1). The rules require parents to get pre-approval from the Superintendent and Board President to place an item on the agenda, and it forces any complaints about district employees into a private process. This shields the district from public accountability and makes it harder for parents to raise concerns.
Recommended Action Plan

DEMAND YOUR RIGHT TO SPEAK: This policy is designed to control the narrative and silence parents. Email Superintendent Michael Barnes at mbarnes@mayfieldschools.org and call Board President Sue Groszek at (440) 995-6800. Demand they remove the clauses that require superintendent pre-approval for agenda items and that force public complaints into private channels. ‘Parents have a right to hold the board and its employees accountable in public. Do not vote to silence us.’
