New ‘Participatory Budgeting’ Program Proposed
The district is considering an agreement for a ‘School Participatory Budgeting’ program, a ‘civic education’ initiative from the Center for the Future of Arizona. These programs can be used to push political activism by having students vote on how to spend real district funds, often through a social justice lens.

INVESTIGATE: The full details are in the agreement file ‘Saddle Mountain USD-CFA SPB and Data Security Agreement_2026-27.pdf’. Open this file on the official agenda (linked above). Email the board (see the Official Agenda link for contacts): ‘Regarding Item G.8, what are the ideological guardrails on this program? Parents must be able to review all curriculum and opt out before our children are taught how to spend taxpayer money.’
