🚨 Alert (LEVEL 10)
School Board Considers $110M Tax Break for Tesla
📅 September 15, 2026
Lamar CISD is considering a ‘JETI’ agreement that would give Tesla a $110.4 million property tax discount over 10 years for a new solar cell facility. While the district’s operating fund would see a negligible net gain of just $89,070 over 16 years, this massive tax break shifts the burden to local homeowners and other businesses.
Response

A public hearing and vote on this deal is scheduled for September 15. Contact the Lamar CISD Board of Trustees (see the Official Agenda link for contact details): ‘Regarding the Tesla JETI application discussed in Item 4.A, I urge you to vote NO. A $110 million tax subsidy for a giant corporation, while the district’s budget gains almost nothing, is an unfair burden on local homeowners.’
