New Graduation Rules Swap Academics for SEL

The district is proposing to adopt new state-mandated graduation requirements under Item II.i. These new rules require students to be measured on subjective, non-academic traits like “self-awareness, resilience, and a growth mindset,” which are core tenets of Social Emotional Learning (SEL). This shifts the school’s focus from teaching core knowledge to assessing and grading your child’s personality and emotions.
Recommended Action Plan

This is a 45-day public comment period. Before the November 12 deadline, submit comments on Item II.i online at www.Laramie1.org or via email to rebecca.gill@laramie1.org. Demand the Board reject subjective SEL metrics: ‘Graduation should be based on what a student knows, not on a state-approved personality profile. Keep SEL out of our graduation requirements.’
