Under Item E.1, the district is negotiating a “Progressive Discipline” policy with the teachers’ union. These policies often replace traditional consequences with ‘restorative’ approaches that can fail to remove disruptive students from the classroom, impacting the learning and safety of all children.
Recommended Action Plan

DEMAND CLARITY: This is a negotiation, but parents have a right to know what’s being discussed. Contact the District Office (see the Official Agenda link) and ask: ‘What does the district mean by “Progressive Discipline” under Item E.1? Parents must be involved in any policy change that affects classroom safety and student consequences.’

Contact the District Office (see the Official Agenda link): ‘A two-minute time limit under Item D.1 is not sufficient for meaningful public input on topics that affect our children’s classrooms. We request the committee ensure robust public comment opportunities at all meetings.’
