NEEDS REVIEW (LEVEL 7)
Board Policy Gags Elected Members During Public Comment
πŸ“… October 20, 2026
The review of Policy 0001, ‘Board of Education Member Protocol and Procedures,’ includes a rule stating that during the public comment section of meetings, only the Board President is permitted to respond. This policy prevents parents from having a direct dialogue with all of their elected representatives, centralizing control and limiting public accountability.
Recommended Action Plan

This is a Policy Committee meeting, the first step to making this permanent. Contact the Board of Education (see the Official Agenda link for contact methods) and deliver this message: ‘Regarding the review of Policy 0001, every board member is an elected representative. A policy forbidding them from responding to public comment is an unacceptable restriction on accountability. The full board must be allowed to engage with the public they serve.’

πŸ’° Impact: Reduced Board Accountability
NEEDS REVIEW (LEVEL 6)
Principal Gatekeeps Parent Access to Classrooms
πŸ“… October 20, 2026
Policy 3210, ‘Visitors to the School,’ requires parents to get ‘permission in advance’ from the Building Principal for any classroom visit. This gives the principal total control to approve or deny a parent’s request to see what their child is being taught, with no clear standards for denial or a right to appeal.
Recommended Action Plan

Contact the Board of Education (see the Official Agenda link for contact methods) and ask them to amend Policy 3210: ‘Parents have a right to observe the classroom. The policy should be changed from requiring ‘permission’ to requiring ‘prior notification and scheduling’ to ensure parental access is the default, not the exception.’

πŸ’° Impact: Blocked Classroom Transparency
