MONITOR (LEVEL 5)
District Program to Monitor ‘Chronically Absent’ Students
📅 October 19, 2026
The Student Achievement Committee report (Item VIII.a) details a new ‘Aim for 8’ initiative that places ‘Attendance Monitors’ in every school. Their stated job is to work with ‘chronically absent’ students and their families to ‘remove barriers,’ a vague mission that could lead to intrusive data collection on family life or home visits without clear parental consent.
Recommended Action Plan

DEMAND CLARITY: Contact the Board of Education (see the Official Agenda link for contact details) and ask: ‘Regarding the ‘Aim for 8’ initiative in Item VIII.a, what specific training do ‘Attendance Monitors’ receive? What data are they collecting on families, and what does the ‘barrier removal’ process involve? Parents must be able to opt-out of any home visits or intrusive questioning.’
