HIGH CONCERN (LEVEL 10)
District Pushes Massive School Consolidation, Citing Fiscal Crisis
πŸ“… October 21, 2026
The Board is set for a final vote on a plan to consolidate its six secondary schools into two main campuses: a countywide 7-9th grade junior high and a 10-12th grade high school. The district claims this is necessary to solve a fiscal crisis, but the plan will mean longer bus rides for many students (especially from Ione), the end of the historic Amador-Argonaut rivalry, and major disruption for every family. This plan is being pushed through after voters rejected similar bond measures twice.
Recommended Action Plan

PACK THE ROOM: This is the final vote on the massive school consolidation plan under Item 11.1. The district is using a budget crisis to push through a plan that circumvents the will of voters who rejected similar bond measures twice. Email the Board (contact info on the district website) and sign up for public comment. Tell them: ‘Do not sacrifice our communities, our kids’ time on long bus routes, and our school traditions to solve a budget crisis. Find another way.’

πŸ’° Impact: Longer Bus Rides, Lost Rivalries, School Closures
