ALERT (LEVEL 9)
School Board to Discuss Corporate Tax Giveaway in Secret
📅 October 29, 2026
The Buna ISD Board will meet in a closed-door executive session to discuss a potential ‘Chapter 313’ property tax abatement for an unnamed corporation. These deals give massive tax breaks to large companies, forcing homeowners and small businesses to pay more to make up the difference. This discussion about shifting the tax burden should happen in public, not in secret.
Response

DEMAND TRANSPARENCY: Contact the Buna ISD board office and ask that your message be delivered to all trustees: ‘Regarding Item 7.A.2, discussions about giving away taxpayer money to corporations via Chapter 313 deals must be held in the open. Reject corporate welfare that shifts the tax burden onto local families.’

Local Church Donates to Student Backpack Program
📅 October 29, 2026
The board will formally accept a donation from First Baptist Church to support the district’s Backpack Program. This is a positive example of community partnership and local charity meeting local needs without relying on more tax dollars.
How to Lock It In

AMPLIFY THE WIN: Thank the board for accepting this community support under Item 6.F. Encourage partnerships with local civic and faith groups as the first solution to student needs, not new government programs.
