Heads up! We have scanned the upcoming agenda for Bloomfield School District. We found 2 items that need your immediate attention before the vote.
NEEDS REVIEW (LEVEL 7)
District Pushes Device Fees Without Proof of Academic Value
๐Ÿ“… October 27, 2026
The board is reviewing a ‘Device Protection Plan,’ which confirms a widespread 1:1 student device program (like Chromebooks or tablets). Before asking parents to pay for protection plans, the district has not provided any independent evidence that these expensive devices improve academic outcomes or disclosed how much daily screen time they add.
Recommended Action Plan

Demand the Board pause Item 4.A and provide a public report on the 1:1 device program. Email the Board (contact info on district website): ‘Before discussing device protection plans, please provide parents with the independent, non-vendor-supplied evidence of academic gains from your device program, and a clear accounting of the total daily screen time these devices add to a student’s day.’

๐Ÿ’ฐ Impact: More Screen Time, Unproven Academics
NEEDS REVIEW (LEVEL 6)
Student Medical Data Shared with University Health System
๐Ÿ“… October 27, 2026
Under Item 3.A, the district is voting on a $194,000 sports medicine contract that requires student athletes to be registered in UConn Healthโ€™s electronic medical records system (EPIC). The contract also allows the university to conduct ‘research-based activities’ on students with a separate consent, creating a new pipeline for your child’s private health data to be collected and used by an outside entity.
Recommended Action Plan

Demand transparency on student data privacy. Email the Board (contact info on district website) before the vote on Item 3.A: ‘Before approving the UCONN contract, please publicly clarify what specific student data will be collected in the EPIC system, who has access to it, and for what “research-based activities” will student consent be sought. Parents have a right to know how their children’s medical privacy will be protected.’
