The board is approving a staff change for the ‘K-7 PBIS Committee Building Coordinator’ under the personnel consent agenda. PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) is often a vehicle for Social Emotional Learning (SEL) and can involve student behavior tracking and ‘restorative’ discipline methods that parents may not be aware of.

ASK QUESTIONS: Email Treasurer Robert Schirhart at robert.schirhart@bcshurricanes.org and ask that he forward your questions to the Superintendent: ‘Regarding Item 5.6 and the PBIS Committee, what specific behavioral curriculum is used? How is student data collected and shared, and what is the parental opt-out process for PBIS interventions?’
