Heads up! Our parent watchdogs have scanned the upcoming agenda for FLORENCE ISD. We found 3 items that need your immediate attention before the vote.
NEEDS REVIEW (LEVEL 6)
District Joins Lobbying Group to Oppose Screen Time Limits
πŸ“… Scheduled Action
The Board is voting to officially pledge support for a position paper from the “Institute for Education Innovation” (IEI), an outside group. This paper lobbies against potential statewide laws that would limit student screen time, using “equity” as a justification to maintain high levels of technology in classrooms.
Recommended Action Plan

Contact the District Office (see the Official Agenda link): ‘Regarding Item X.C, the district should not use its official position to lobby against state laws that could protect our children from excessive screen time. Focus on academics, not political pledges. Vote NO on joining the IEI position paper.’

πŸ’° Taxpayer Impact: Taxpayer-Funded Lobbying
MONITOR (LEVEL 5)
Library Books Purchased as “Instructional Materials”
πŸ“… Scheduled Action
The district is purchasing a list of books designated for “instruction” by the librarian, not for general checkout. This appears to be a procedural loophole to bypass the standard parental review policies that typically apply to library collection materials.
Recommended Action Plan

DEMAND TRANSPARENCY: Contact the District Office (see the Official Agenda link): ‘Regarding Item X.D, what is the parental review process for books purchased as “instructional materials” for the librarian? Please clarify how parents can review these materials before they are used to teach our children.’

πŸ’° Taxpayer Impact: Bypassing Parent Review

Good moves worth showing up to support so they stick.
Major Win (LEVEL 9)
District Certifies Compliance with State DEI Ban
πŸ“… September 21, 2026
The district is formally certifying to the Texas Education Agency that it has adopted multiple policies to ban Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) duties for all staff and contractors, as required by state law. This action codifies protections against ideological instruction and ensures vendors who push these concepts can be terminated.
How to Lock It In

SECURE THE WIN: Show up to thank the Board for taking this strong stand against DEI and for codifying these protections in district policy under Item X.A. This is a model for other districts to follow and we need to get our support on the public record so it cannot be quietly reversed.
