New Student Screening Software ‘i-Ready’ Adopted for Grades 1-8

In a presentation on state report cards, the district revealed it is in ‘Year 1’ of implementing ‘i-Ready’ software as a universal screener for all students in grades 1-8. This program replaces valuable teacher-led instruction with screen time, and the district has not presented any independent evidence that this software improves academic outcomes.
Recommended Action Plan

DEMAND TRANSPARENCY: Contact the Board of Education (see the Official Agenda link for contact details) and ask: ‘Regarding the implementation of i-Ready software mentioned in the October 21st presentation, please provide the public with the independent, non-vendor-funded evidence demonstrating its academic effectiveness. We also demand to know how many minutes of daily screen time this program adds for students in grades 1-8 and what direct instruction it replaces.’
