Adopting Controversial ‘Equity Math’ Framework
The district is accepting an $80,000 grant to implement professional development for the new ‘2023 Math Framework.’ This framework is known for prioritizing ‘equity’ over academic acceleration and is the first step toward rolling out a new, less rigorous approach to math instruction across the district.
Recommended Action Plan
DEMAND TRANSPARENCY: Email the Board (contact info on district website): ‘Pull Consent Item 8.D.IV for a full discussion. Before you approve training for the 2023 Math Framework, you must show parents how it will affect advanced math tracks and academic rigor in our schools.’
π° Impact: Threat to Advanced Math

$30,600 for ‘Social-Emotional Learning’ Coaching
The district is paying Wish Well, LLC $30,600 to provide ten ‘social-emotional learning’ coaching sessions for fifteen ‘identified’ students at El Toyon Elementary. This brings therapeutic services into the school, but it’s unclear how students are selected for this coaching or what curriculum is used.
Recommended Action Plan
DEMAND TRANSPARENCY: Email the Board (contact info on district website): ‘Regarding Consent Item 8.D.I, please pull this item for a separate vote. Parents need to know how students are ‘identified’ for this coaching and have the right to review the full curriculum from Wish Well, LLC before it is approved.’
π° Impact: $30,600

$19,200 for ‘Recess Reboot’ Program
The district is paying Playworks $19,200 for a ‘Recess Reboot’ program focused on ‘inclusive play’ and ‘conflict resolution.’ The contract gives Playworks ownership of data collected on students and trains ‘Youth Leaders’ to manage conflicts among their peers.
Recommended Action Plan
OPT-OUT ALERT: Email the Board (contact info on district website): ‘Regarding Consent Item 8.D.III, who owns the student data collected by Playworks? The contract states Playworks does. We demand the district retain ownership of all student data. Vote NO until this is fixed.’
π° Impact: Student Data Ownership

District Using i-Ready EdTech Platform
The board will hear a presentation on student test scores, which includes data from the i-Ready software used in grades K-2. This is a major EdTech platform that replaces teacher instruction with screen time, but the district has not provided evidence that it works.
Recommended Action Plan
ASK THE HARD QUESTIONS: Sign up for public comment for Item 9.A. Ask the Board: ‘Please publish the independent, non-vendor-funded studies showing i-Ready produces academic gains, and tell us exactly how many minutes per day our K-2 students spend on this program.’
π° Impact: Increased Student Screen Time
