New Governance Model Could Silence Parent Voices

The Board is adopting a rigid new operating model called “Student Outcomes Focused Governance” (SOFG). This system forces the board to focus only on a few pre-approved “goals” and “guardrails,” which could be used to silence parent concerns about safety, curriculum, or other issues if they fall outside these narrow topics. Under items 2.B and 2.C, they are taking immediate action to set these new rules and change meeting practices to enforce them.
Recommended Action Plan

PACK THE ROOM: This is a critical vote. Attend the retreat on Sept. 18 and demand the Board reject the restrictive ‘SOFG’ model. Email the Governing Board (contact info on district website): ‘Do not adopt the SOFG framework or any ‘guardrails’ under Items 2.A, 2.B, and 2.C. This system will silence parent voices and limit your ability to represent us on critical issues beyond a narrow set of pre-approved goals.’

The board is receiving legal training on their duty as “mandatory reporters” to report suspected child abuse or neglect to authorities. The presentation includes vague terms like “serious emotional harm,” which can be weaponized by activists to target parents who do not “affirm” a child’s chosen gender identity, treating non-affirmation as reportable abuse.
Recommended Action Plan

MONITOR & QUESTION: Email the Governing Board (contact info on district website): ‘Regarding the Mandatory Reporting training in Item 2.D, please publicly affirm that the district will not interpret ’emotional harm’ or ‘neglect’ to include a parent’s decision not to ‘affirm’ a child’s gender identity. Parents’ rights to raise their children according to their own values must be protected from activist interpretations of this law.’
