District Partners with Planned Parenthood for Sex Ed
Under Action Item 8.B.3, the board will vote on a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Planned Parenthood to provide ‘sexual and reproductive health education’ to students at Del Mar High School. The agreement explicitly states that Planned Parenthood will provide students with information about their clinical services, creating a direct pipeline from the classroom to their clinics.
Recommended Action Plan
PACK THE ROOM: This is a five-alarm fire. We need every available parent at Tuesday’s meeting. Contact the District Office (see the Official Agenda link) and demand the Board VOTE NO on Item 8.B.3. ‘We do not consent to activist groups promoting clinical services to our children in school.’
π° Impact: Your Child’s Health & Safety

New Policy Creates Loophole to Socially Transition Students Without Parental Consent
Hidden within the CSBA policy updates (Item 8.E.2), the new draft of Administrative Regulation 5145.3 on Nondiscrimination contains language that allows the district to socially transition a student (change names, pronouns, and access to bathrooms/sports) and keep it secret from parents. A ‘Right to Privacy’ clause allows the district to hide this information if they believe disclosure would ‘endanger the well-being of the student,’ creating a subjective loophole to bypass parental rights.
Recommended Action Plan
PACK THE ROOM: This is a direct assault on parental rights. Contact the District Office (see the Official Agenda link) and demand the Board reject the proposed changes to AR 5145.3 under Item 8.E.2. ‘I am the primary authority in my child’s life. No policy should ever create a loophole for the school to hide critical information about my child from me.’
π° Impact: Bypassing Parents

District Approving More Student Screen Time Software
Buried in the Consent Agenda (Item 10.A.1), the district is approving purchase orders for student-facing educational software, including Brain Pop ($5,492) and Learning A-Z ($11,403 total). The district has not provided any independent evidence that these programs produce academic gains or detailed how much additional daily screen time they will add for students.
Recommended Action Plan
DEMAND TRANSPARENCY: Email the Board (see Official Agenda link for contacts): ‘Regarding Consent Item 10.A.1, please publish the independent, non-vendor-funded evidence showing these software products improve academic outcomes, and state the total daily screen time they will add, before approving the purchase.’
π° Impact: Undisclosed Screen Time

New Policy Authorizes Monitoring of Student Social Media
As part of the policy updates in Item 8.E.2, the proposed changes to Administrative Regulation 5125 (Student Records) would give the district authority to ‘gather and maintain information from the social media of any district student.’ This policy opens the door for the district to conduct surveillance on students’ private, off-campus speech and activities under the vague justification of ‘school safety.’
Recommended Action Plan
PROTECT STUDENT PRIVACY: Contact the District Office (see the Official Agenda link): ‘Regarding the proposed changes to AR 5125 under Item 8.E.2, I oppose the provision allowing the district to monitor student social media. This is an overreach and a violation of student privacy.’
π° Impact: Your Child’s Privacy

| ALERT (LEVEL 4) |

Science Camp Contract Includes ‘Social-Emotional Learning’
Under Item 8.B.2, the board is approving a $21,675 contract with ‘Woodcraft Rangers’ for a 5th grade science camp. The attached contract (Exhibit A) explicitly lists ‘social-emotional learning’ as one of the program’s objectives, embedding SEL instruction into an academic activity with an outside vendor.
Recommended Action Plan
ASK THE BOARD: Contact the District Office (see the Official Agenda link): ‘Regarding Item 8.B.2, what specific SEL curriculum will Woodcraft Rangers be using during the science camp, and can parents review all materials and opt their children out of the SEL portions of the program?’
π° Impact: $21,675

| Major Win (LEVEL 8) |
|
WIN: Policy Update Strengthens Parental Right to Object to Social Transitioning
A proposed update to Administrative Regulation 5020 (Parent Rights) under Item 8.E.2 adds a crucial new protection for parents. The new language explicitly gives parents the right ‘To object…to any treatment of the student by the district that is inconsistent with the student’s sex, such as in the use of the student’s preferred name and pronouns and access to sex-segregated facilities, programs, and activities.’ This is a significant win that codifies a parent’s right to stop a social transition at school.
How to Lock It In
SECURE THE WIN: Show up to thank the Board for this specific language in AR 5020 under Item 8.E.2. Email the Board (see Official Agenda link for contacts): ‘Thank you for including language in AR 5020 that affirms a parent’s right to object to social transitioning. Please ensure this vital protection is approved.’

WIN: District Moves to Ban Phones During Class Time
Under Item 8.E.2, the board is reviewing a new policy (BP 5131.8) that requires student mobile phones to be turned off during instructional time. This policy is a positive step toward reducing classroom distractions, protecting students from online harms during school, and returning the focus to academic instruction.
How to Lock It In
AMPLIFY THE WIN: Show up to thank the Board for taking action to get phones out of the classroom. Email the Board (see Official Agenda link for contacts): ‘Thank you for approving Policy 5131.8. This is a common-sense measure to help our kids focus on learning, and we fully support it.’
