Strict Limits Placed on Public Comment

📅 October 26, 2026

The board is holding a ‘Special Public Comment Meeting’ limited to just 30 minutes before its regular meeting on October 26. With a 3-minute-per-person cap that the president can shorten at will, as few as 10 parents may get to speak, severely restricting the community’s ability to hold the board accountable in a public forum.

Recommended Action Plan

Contact Clerk of the Board Shelly Trenholm at 913-993-6401 or shellytrenholm@smsd.org before the noon deadline on October 26. Demand the Board extend the 30-minute public comment period and ask: ‘Why is the board limiting public input to just 30 minutes for the entire district? We demand you respect parents’ right to be heard.’
