Bus Safety Program Hides In-Bus Student Surveillance

The district is proposing a ‘stop-arm camera’ program to ticket drivers who illegally pass school buses. However, the plan also includes installing interior cameras to ‘document student placement’ and monitor children inside the bus, a significant expansion of student surveillance under the guise of safety.
Recommended Action Plan

DEMAND TRANSPARENCY: Contact the Board (see the Official Agenda link for details). Ask them: ‘Separate the vote. The stop-arm camera program to ticket cars should be completely separate from any proposal to install surveillance cameras inside buses. Who will have access to the interior footage of our children, and what are the data privacy policies?’
