WARNING (LEVEL 7)
Massive $99M Construction Project on Middle School Campus
📅 October 27, 2026
Spring Branch ISD is considering an agreement to allow the City of Houston and other government entities to build a massive, $99 million underground flood detention vault beneath the Memorial Middle School campus. While the project is funded by outside agencies and promises to reduce community flooding, it commits district property to a permanent, complex underground structure, introducing major construction disruption and unknown long-term risks for the school.
Response

DEMAND THE DETAILS: This is a permanent change to school property. Contact the SBISD Board of Trustees (see the Official Agenda link for contact info): ‘Regarding Item 1, the Memorial Middle School detention project, what are the specific legal and financial protections for the district if construction overruns impact school operations or if the underground vault creates future problems for rebuilding the school? We need to see the full agreement before the district gives up this valuable land.’
